I started wearing makeup in middle school. My mom didn’t really give me any rules to follow, and she never commented on how hideous my eyeshadow color choices were. I was free to do as I pleased with my beauty routine. I was also very lucky to not have struggles with acne until after I had babies, so my routine was pretty cut and dry. My best friends were always eyeliner and mascara. I of course used foundation becuase making your face look like a baked treat was the thing back in the early 2000’s but other than that- I didn’t subsribe to much else. I especially hated anything on my lips.
I’m not sure if I tried something once and hated it so much that I just swore off of lip color and gloss, or what happened but I have never been one to wear anything at all on my lips. I’ve always been self-conscious of my mouth. I didn’t want to accentuate it. Fast forward to being almost 28, until about two weeks ago, I was still anti lip products unless it was an E.O.S. lip balm or something. My good friend Amber invested in Lipsense a little while back and she kind of convinced me to just give it a shot.
If you don’t know what Lipsense is, it’s a newer lip color company that has made these lipsticks that once dry, do not budge. So they are great for date nights or even a normal work day. I can promise you once these are one your mouth, the only thing getting it off is the Oops Remover that comes with your kit.
When Amber finally had me convinced to give it a go, I told her I would but I need to stick to nude colors. I figured those would look best and cause less shock to my system. I also asked her to send me Berry, the dark, vampy purple that I had seen on other people. I love those dark colors, just not on me. But I thought what the heck, I’ll give it a shot.
After trying the nude colors she sent me I was getting a little discouraged. Little miss hates her lips still hated how everything looked. One night when Jake was working I finally got the balls to try Berry. I was shocked. A) I actually did have lips, and they really weren’t that small. and B) I loved the color on ME! I sent a picture to Jake and he loved it. So my confidence was a little more boosted.
I was so suprised to tell Amber that I actually didn’t love the nude colors on me but Berry had me hooked on Lipsense. Now, I’m kind of ready to try some other bold, fun colors!
A couple things to note before you buy:
- The color does tingle on your lips a bit but it quickly goes away once it’s dry.
- Definitely follow the application instructions otherwise your color will look uneven.
- Use the gloss to avoid your lips feeling dryish.
- Get out of your comfort zone. I am such a creature of habit and I’m thrilled I gave Berry a try.
Amber and I thought it would be fun to giveaway a kit to another person who needed a little push into the lipstick world, so we are giving away a kit and a giftcard! So whether you’re a lip weirdo like me, or you can’t get enough of different lip colors- enter and win something fun!
