I’ve never been a huge breakfast person, but lately I have been making an effort to make it a priority. I definitley feel much better when I eat breakfast, just sometimes I get way too busy. That’s my excuse, but what about when my 7 year old gets into this habit? In the mornings, I would ask her what she wanted to eat for breakfast and she would say nothing, I’m just not hungry right now.
This has gone on for months. Some days I force her to eat, and others I just throw my hands up. I stopped eating breakfast when I started school because it made my stomach upset early in the morning. This isn’t her reason for not wanting to eat though. Recently I’ve figured out a few ways to entice her into eating though, and I thought I’d share those with you all in case you’re facing the same challenge.
Tip 1: Make sure it isn’t due to food induced nausea, or another underlying problem like body image issues etc. We figured out these are not the things bothering Addie, so we moved on to the next hypothesis.
Tip 2: Find out what they don’t like. This is fairly easy with my 3 year old, she just doesn’t like anything. Addie is different, she’s always been pretty good about a variety of foods. So I spent about a month trying new breakfast options with her. We tried smoothies, granola and yogurt, different cereals and oatmeal. Those were all big fat NO’s to her. So we were able to work with process of elimination.
Tip 3: Even if it’s something weird, like carrots and ranch, let it happen. It’s food, it’s semi healthy and it will kick start their metabolism. For Addie, I introduced her to these chocolate Vita Tops muffin tops and they were a hit. I love them for a couple reasons. One being she actually eats breakfast again, they are healthy and she can make them herself. I usually give her about an hour to wake up and then make her find something to eat. These are so simple for her because she can just microwave them for thirty seconds, pour a glass of milk and get breakfast out of the way.
Vita Tops are organic, gluten-free and protein rich, so I feel zero guilt when she chooses these for breakfast. They are nutrient rich and a great brain food for her to begin her day with.
What about you? Do you have a kid who hates breakfast? Make they would love these Vita Tops as much as Addie!
