Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great holiday break and ate tons of delicious food! I know I did. I ate entirely too much over the last couple of weeks, for sure. Today I’ve been trying to get our lives back in order, aside from the holidays we have been busy with health stuff too so it’s been quite insane.
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about how 2017 will be different for A Party of Four and Jake brought up a couple good points. One being, I don’t hardly talk about our family here anymore. So I think that 2017 will bring a lot more family/life updates. We are on quite the journey with Jake’s RA, and maybe writing about it all will help relieve the stress it has brought.
I’d also like to do a couple recipes a week here, since it is my favorite content to create by far. Me and food, man. It’s not a healthy relationship.
Anyway, things wont change drastically here, I just think I’d like to do a little more writing like I used to, and maybe you’ll like that better as well!
As far as our lives lately, like I said above, it’s been a circus. Jake was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis last year, which was bittersweet. The bitter is obvious but the sweet was mostly just finally figuring out what the heck is going on with him. At almost 28 years old, he is quite literally falling apart. The disease is fast and furious and it’s been hell trying to find a treatment that insurance will cover and that he will react well to. We started Remicade infusions a couple of months ago and he seems to be tolerating them alright.
He has started to lose his hair and the first three or so days after the treatment he is zonked. After his next treatment the middle of this month though we are supposed to start seeing actual results. I am cautiously optimistic. You see, Jake’s been off work since the beginning of October because a flare up put him totally out of commission. I’m looking forward to the remission process so that he can go back to work and our lives can sort of normalize again.
As far as myself, I have been working on the site and plans for the new year. I am headed to the doc this week because I took a nice fall down our old, wooden, lacquered stairs about a month ago and my back has been killing me since. I did have XRays and was told that nothing was broken but I think we are having an MRI done to be sure everything is where it needs to be. Hoping all is well but that maybe we can figure out what’s going on.
The girls are great! Addie turned 7 at the end of December and I can’t believe it. She is growing way too fast and it’s slowly killing me. She had asked for Minecraft for Christmas, so we finally did that. I told myself I would be setting screen time limits but so far, that hasn’t happened. Lets be real, she isn’t complaining about being bored or telling me she has nothing to do anymore so I’m cool with it. In all seriousness, I have a blast watching her play the game and explain it to me. She’s my little nerd and I love it.
Piper is three. Need I say more? She’s still struggling with the sleeping through the night thing and her meltdowns are times 400 now but she can be a big sweetie.
All in all, we’re all doing well. I am enjoying brainstorming for the blog and I’m excited to see where 2017 takes this little space of mine. I have to give you all props because without you, I wouldn’t be where I am, and I am so thankful you have made it possible for me to do what I love. Look forward to lots of new recipes, tips and tricks for being a human and more this coming year!
Tell me below, how was your holiday? Did you make any resolutions? What would you like to see more of here in the coming year?
