Over the course of Addie and Piper’s lives, Christmas has become a really big to-do for me. It’s always a really exciting time for me (and them of course) but I also find myself going into overdrive very quickly and without warning most years. This year I vowed to not let that happen. I decided to simplify the holidays by taking small steps to lower my stress and in turn make more memories and fun for the girls.
One of the big memories I have as a kid was baking cookies with my step-mom. We did it every year, and I loved it. in my almost 7 years as a mom, I have still not pulled off one of these cookie baking extravaganzas for my girls, and I am always disappointed in myself! This year, in the interest of being less stressed, I refused to set myself up for disappointment! After all, the girls just like getting messy and eating sweets, and that’s where Betty Crocker is a life saver.
I love buying the cookie mixes because we still make the dough together, we still bake the cookies and eat them together! Santa likes these cookies just as much too, thank you very much.
My kids like the sugar cookie mix the best because there are instructions for rolling and using cutters as well as your usual drop sugar cookies on the back of the mix. I mix up a quick DIY icing with some confectioners sugar and food coloring and they go to town decorating.
Holiday traditions don’t have to be super involved, they just have to be spending time together and making memories. This year I will keep reminding myself of this as we get deeper into Christmas territory!
Tell me below, what is your favorite holiday tradition you do with your kids?
