Guys, from the time I saw the movie It Takes Two when I was a kid, sloppy joes were one of my most favorite meals ever. As an adult, I still love them. They are still my go to on nights where I want something comforting, and even better- they are easy! The recipe I’m sharing today, while amped up just a bit, is still just as easy as the sloppy joes we grew up on, but even more tasty!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 can original Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce
First things first, chop your mushrooms and onions. Sautee them in a hot pan with a tablespoon of butter. Once they are mostly cooked up, add your ground turkey, salt and pepper to taste and garlic powder. Brown the turkey and once that is done, make sure to strain well. Turkey tends to let go of a lot of water when cooked, so definitely don’t skip this step!
Pro Tip: In order to not lose our chopped mushrooms and onions when straining, place a paper towel in the bottom of your colander before pouring the mixture in. This will ensure all the liquid is drained but that the good stuff stays in.
Once you’ve done this, pour everything back into the pan and put it back on medium heat. Pour your favorite Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce in and stir until the sauce has thickened and is hot. I am a big fan of the original sauce, but my husband prefers the Manwich Bold version, as he likes a good kick to his food. You can also get it in Manwich Thick & Chunky. Whichever way you go, Manwich is a heart sauce with a sweet and tangy taste.
Once the sauce is heated through, serve on your favorite bun and I like to add a slice of cheddar cheese to mine!
This dinner is a snap. Literally 20 minutes from first chop to table. I am all about ease and quickness with my crazy two girls. I love that it makes it so simple to get a hot, delicious meal on the table for the four of us with our crazy schedules.
