Howdy guys! This Summer has been insane for me, and it’s been quite some time since I just sat down and let you all know what’s happening- so I figured now is a good time for that.
I really don’t know where to start. I have been so swamped getting ready for Addie’s first grade year. I finally put in my last order for curriculum last Friday, so I’m praying that comes this week. We have set August 15th as our official first day of school! I really can’t wait to get started. This will be the first year we really dive in to homeschooling. I’ve been teaching her since she was about two, but this year is different. We’re adding science and history, a rigorous math program and lots of other fun things! If you all are interested in what curriculum I am using this year, let me know in the comments below and I’ll write a post on that. For the most part, I’m following The Well Trained Mind, which is a book dedicated to classical education. It’s an awesome book and if you’re considering home education for your kiddos, I urge you to check it out from your local library or grab it from amazon.
Aside from preparing for school, I am also getting geared up for Addie’s first year as a Girl Scout! Originally, I just registered her and she was going to be in a Daisy troop, but it turned out that her cousin’s school lost their troop leader- and as a result I kind of volunteered to try that out. So not only is Addie in Girl Scouts, I am apparently taking on troop leader status this year. I’m pretty excited but also nervous just because I want to be sure I can juggle everything correctly.
Also new on the home front, we have a fun event coming up Friday at our local Children’s Museum. We were invited to check out the new Doc McStuffins exhibit before it opens, so that will be a really fun way to kick the weekend off. Addie is pretending she’s too old and cool for it, but I know better. I know Piper will have a blast though, and that’s the point. I will definitely post about our trip next week. I think Doc McStuffins is one of the more tolerable and cute shows out there- so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a wee bit excited myself.
While school is starting in just two weeks for us, we still have a couple Summer plans to check off our list yet. The Indiana State Fair AKA Fried Food Fest starts this weekend so I will be making sure we get there at least once. I am such a sucker for those Indiana tenderloin sandwiches, guys! It’s basically why I go. Not because it’s fun and educational for the kids. Nope, for the food.
So yeah, things are picking up speed this month around here as they usually do in August. I’m glad though, the Summer months tend to throw me off kilter. Even though I am a SAHM/WAHM and a homeschooling parent, I just feel like the Summertime drives me slowly insane. I welcome the structure of the school year with arms wide open!
What about you guys? What have you been up to lately? What do you have planned? Spill it all below!
