Oh hey! I dropped the proverbial blogging ball again last week. Sigh. Life has been chaos as usual, but things are slowing down. We have definitely hit our rainy season though. Remember when Jake got his EMT certification? Well a couple months ago, he decided to start volunteering at a fire department in a small town on the outskirts of the city. He was voted on at the station and everything was super exciting! We decided that along with volunteering as an EMT there for more experience, it would be great to start the fire training, because there are mandatory certs needed that look great on any resume, including the one that will be helping him into nursing school. So, he began those classes. Our week looked a little like this: Jake had a 24 hour shift and 12 hr shift at work each week and then 2 days a week he had fire class. Which seems like it’s doable but wasn’t. As difficult as it is to admit it, I was drowning. Piper is at an age where she is a soul sucker. She’s 2, and she owns it. As hard as it was on me though, we decided it was worth pushing through because the classes were just a few months.
About a month in to the class, Jake started having to do the physical sides of the training and we learned that it wasn’t something his body was going to be able to handle. Which just plain sucks. I’ve talked a bit about our journey down the RA road with Jake and with the Humira injections, we thought that the physical side of volunteering would be manageable, but it just isn’t working out. So, he’s dropped the class for now. He’s still volunteering 24 minimum hours a month there on the EMS side of things, which is obviously still an awesome opportunity and really cool for him. It’s just been a rough patch for him to be limited by his body isn’t really something he is very accustomed to, so this has been a learned and growing experience for us both.
On a brighter note, Easter was a really fun time for us all! This was the first year Piper really understood the whole basket and egg hunt thing which was a lot of fun. I almost died hiding eggs. Of course, because it’s me- I waited until the absolute last second to get them hidden. It was about 11:30, maybe even midnight and I decided to hide them in the front yard because our backyard was flooded from all the storms we have had. Well, because of said storms, we also had a bunch of downed tree limbs in the front yard that I forgot about. So roughly four separate times, I tripped over giant tree limbs and almost died. The things we do for our kids. I also may have dropped the entire contents of one egg into a little mud patch and stuffed the jelly beans back into the egg…God made dirt right? Plus, neither kid noticed…so we have no idea which one got the muddle jelly beans.
That’s what’s been happening in our neck of the woods lately! Oh, and I also let Jake dye my hair over the weekend- but, that’s an entirely different post, because when you let your husband take your hair blue, it deserves it’s own space on the internet.
Tell me below, what have you been up to?
