Happy Tuesday! I hope your week is off to a great start. Today, I’m sharing a recipe for the most delicious meatball sauce you have ever had. Hands down. This recipe comes from Jake’s mom and seriously, you are going to die and go to heaven after having one (or ten) of these.
So, here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 1/2 bottles of Heinz chili sauce
- 6 oz. vinegar
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup grape jelly
- 1/2 cup beer (use a good beer that isn’t too dark or hoppy)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 to 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp fresh finely chopped onion
- 1 tbsp fresh finely chopped garlic clove (or dash of garlic powder in a pinch)
*If you’re using frozen meatballs, you can pour them into a glass casserole dish and heat at 350 degrees while you make the sauce. This will help them cook up a little faster.
This recipe will work fine with homemade meatballs or frozen. I’ve had it both ways, and you can’t tell a difference. First things first, mix all of your ingredients together in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil, stir occasionally.
Once it’s boiling, let it simmer for 20 minutes. (If it becomes too thick, just add a little water)
Next, put your meatballs in the crock pot and pour the sauce over them. Stir them up to be sure they are all coated and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours!
*If you baked them first, only put in the crock pot for 3 hours on low and turn to warm when done to keep them from drying out.
Seriously though, these meatballs are so good and are great for little get-togethers or football days! What’s your favorite football finger food?
